The two journalists died after shells hit the house and makeshift media center where they were staying near the Baba Amr neighborhood in Homs, opposition activists and witnesses reported. 

A witness also told Reuters by phone that shells hit the house where the journalists were staying and a rocket hit them as they tried to escape.

Colvin was working for Britain's Sunday Times newspaper. Both her and Ochlik were veteran reporters of wars in the Middle East and elsewhere.
