Baden, Switzerland, February 11, 2019 – BH Media Publishing Solutions has ordered a drives retrofit from ABB for two Mitsubishi presses at its print site in Mechanicsville, Virginia, USA. The Times-Dispatch Hanover County production plant prints the daily Richmond Times-Dispatch, the Newport News Daily Press and an assortment of BH Media weeklies and other publications.

The two Mitsubishi presses are shafted and each currently has 11 Fincor drives, five with 200HP and six with 100HP. These drives are obsolete and also difficult to troubleshoot and repair. In order to ensure the availability and effectiveness of the production in the coming years BH Media turned to ABB for a turnkey solution.

ABB will supply the latest DCS880 DC industrial drives. These have a thyristor power platform that has been proven in demanding industries like metals, mining, pulp & paper, food & beverage and printing all over the world. The DCS880 boasts a wider power range than any other DC drive on the market. The hardware and software are designed with the user in mind. Special features make installation and configuration simple and allow the customization of the application to customer needs.

The new drives will be commissioned on the first press around mid-year 2019. The second press follows in 2021.
