Summary

Usually the topics covered in the following report are regarded as input for content in the newspaper, be it in the economic, in the political section or as a feature. However, the trends also have a major impact on the future strategic positioning of publishing houses. One very evident example is the regulations in the field of advertising, where specific product categories are banned from advertising. But it is not only these kinds of regulations that directly affect the publishers that are of importance. Globalisation, environmental issues and education are only three areas that will highly influence and determine the world in which people live and their attitudes towards this world. The following “Where News?” Report is the continuation of the report #4 which dealt with the demographic and socio economic trends. The report was written also by IWG BONN (Institut für Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft, Bonn, Germany). The authors of the report are Stefanie Wahl, Adrian Ottnad, Martin Schulte, Andreas Falke, Michael Kunczik. Following this report we will publish a report that will deal with the drivers of change in media channels. Later we will publish a report on the Future Newspaper Printing Technology. In the first quarter 2008 you will receive a slightly different kind of report as we will conduct a scenario workshop concerning different possible media usage developments. The findings of the workshops will be published as a report. The “Where NEWS?” Project depends to a major extent on the involvement and the interactivity with the Ifra members. We encourage your feedback. For this reason we have set up a new, interactive website, which is live on www.ifra.com/enews. If you wish to subscribe to the new project newsletter and /or want to take a more active role in the project, please tell us and/or send an email to wherenews@ifra.com. We hope you enjoy reading the report and that you gain new insights from it.
